Subcontract Sheet Metalwork since 1977
Hydram Engineering was founded in 1977 by the late Harry Young. His children John Young, Judith Porter and Gillian Young were the original partners.
Subcontract engineering company
The Company started production in a 2,700 sq ft nursery unit (which is now the site of the company's car park) with two small drills, a lathe and a band saw. Later, power presses, a guillotine, a pressbrake and a manual punching machine were added to the plant, beginning to focus the business on sheet metalwork.
Laser cut metal supplier
By 1985 Hydram had outgrown the nursery unit so moved onto the current site in a 5,250 sq ft factory. The company purchased its first turret punching machine in 1986, its first flatbed laser in 1997 and consolidated its position as a large subcontract sheet metalwork supplier.
Large metal fabrication company
The company then expanded its general metal fabrication facilities, adding metal powder coating in 2001, a robot welding cell in 2004 and ventured into tube laser cutting in 2006.
Hydram’s site has now expanded to well over 100,000 sq ft and employs over 250 people. The company is positioned as one of the largest single source sheet metal fabrication suppliers in the UK.
