Hydram achieve ISO:14001 Environmental Standard Following a 3-day audit Hydram has been successful in obtaining the ISO14001 Environmental Standard.

Conforming to the standard can lead to benefits such as reduced cost of waste management, savings in consumption of energy and materials and lower distributiuon costs. The standard is an integral part of Hydram's 'Committed to World Class' strategy and works around four main objectives: to prevent pollution to water, land and air from the site; to monitor and reduce carbon footprint; to reduce the amount of packaging used and to reduce the amount of waste produced, diverting as much as possible away from landfill for reuse and recycling.
Hydram’s Safety, Health and Environment Manager, Andrew Robertson, worked with consultant Marek Bidwell to put several systems and procedures in place throughout the site to ensure that the Company does all it can to protect itself and the environment from pollution and waste. All employees attended a presentation about the new Environmental Management System; while some received additional EMS auditor training and will be making sure that the systems operate smoothly.
Other major projects have included installing energy efficient lighting in the laser section, something that will be rolled out into the rest of the factory in the coming year, and installing remote control doors to prevent heat loss.

Andrew said, “The concept in the standard of continuous improvement fits in with our business model of working towards world-class status.” Auditor David White said of Hydram, ““The EMS is of a high quality with well documented procedures, work instructions and records and should provide the basis for continual environmental improvements” The standard confirms that Hydram now:
- Demonstrate a commitment to achieve legal compliance.
- Demonstrate environmental commitment to customers.
- Manage environmental risks- in the future by formal plans.
